Maria Dacre

Career educator, is how many would describe Maria.  She has been immersed in the world of early childhood and primary education for 25 years.  Maria is a passionate advocate for the child and student who sits at the centre of all professional dialogue.

Kiwi born and raised her teaching career includes teaching and leading in both Australia and New Zealand. She has been fortunate to have had key role models throughout her career who have influenced her teaching practice, pedagogy, and philosophy.

Teaching and leading in a variety of schools from large urban to rural and semi-rural schools has given her the ability to adapt, to understand the students, teachers, their families, and communities.  She values the relationships formed with all school and community stakeholders, knowing that these connections are at the heart of children’s learning.

Unashamedly ‘a learner’, Maria continues to study and is currently completing her thesis around leadership and the strong links this had to improved student achievement.  Leadership experiences from early childhood directorship through to school principal has given her the opportunity to effect change and lead her teams to positive educational outcomes.

Maria has now added educational consultancy to her kete.  She works alongside Boards of Trustees, principals and teachers with guidance and support, appraisal, PLD and community consultation. She is able to respond in a positive manner that strengthens leadership and grows teacher capacity.

Returning to the mighty Manawatu 14 years ago, she lives with her husband of many years, Nigel,  on a small lifestyle block. Mum and Dad to Elyse, they all share a passion for life's adventures and travel.

Currently Maria is working at Massey University in the Education Institute as a Senior Tutor and Course Coordinator.
